UCEA Science Ambassadors visit Daresbury Laboratory -
The Science Ambassador Scheme aims to build student confidence, team working, problem-solving and communication skills through outreach and practical workshops. The scheme also aims to build transferable skills to develop students into Science Leaders.
On Friday 29th September, Year 8 Science Ambassadors from UCEA had the opportunity to attend a workshop with the Institute of Physics at the Daresbury Laboratory.
The one-day workshop led by experts from the Institute of Physics, local mentors and STEM ambassadors included team building, practical activities, confidence building and presentation skills training.
Organiser and Head of Learning, Mrs Houghton commented: “It was wonderful to see the students grow in confidence as the day progressed. They have since started planning how to deliver the experiments they have learnt to local primary schools and representing UCEA as Science Ambassadors”
One student said: “My favourite part of the day was the tour of the engineering workshops. I loved looking at all the equipment Physicists have to use. It has inspired me to become a Physicist in the future.”
Another student added: ““The day was amazing and the best part for me was doing all the experiments. My favourite ones were the balloon rockets and the dolls head! I also liked working in teams and meeting new people from other schools. I thought it was such a good experience.”
